Obituary for Robert Lowell Neel
Robert Lowell Neel, 83, of North Irwin, died peacefully at home on Friday March 28, 2014. He was born December 8, 1930, in West Grove, the son of the late Ralph Hodgson and Rosamond (Lowell) Neel. As a young man, he was a farmer, and owned several business. For 20 years, he worked for Irwin Sensenich/Huwood Irwin in the transportation of mine cars. After retirement, he was a driver for Kenny Ross Chevrolet. When you saw Bob he most likely had a ball cap on with a great smile or a golf club in his hand.” Pappy” was a loving grandfather who was passionate about spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards with family and friends. He felt the quality of time spent with someone, was more important than the quantity. Wherever he was he would always strike up a conversation. He taught his kids to always look for landmarks when traveling, electric tape can be used for anything, who needs a screwdriver when you have a butter knife, when a golf ball goes in the water-roll up your pants, take your shoes off and take your shot, the importance of hard work and always be 10 minutes early. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son John R. Neel, his sister Pricilla (Reedy) Rowland, his brother Charles Reedy, his brothers-in-law, Floyd Warrick, Raymond Rowland, August Guzzie Jr., his in-laws Charles and Susan (Stash) Dedo; his sisters-in-law, Charlene (Dedo) Randolph and Mary Elizabeth (Dedo) Guzzie. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carolyn S. (Dedo) Neel; a daughter Kelly S. (Daniel) Lacek, of McDonald; his daughter-in-law Mary (Common) Neel, of North Huntingdon; four sons, Kenneth R. (Heidi) Neel, of Virginia, Robert L. (Denise) Neel Jr., of Delaware, William E. Neel, of Delaware and John A. (Christine) Neel, of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren, Robert, Erica and Taylor Neel, Ryan, Morgan and Madison Neel, Ashley, Stephen and Matthew Lacek, Jennifer (Dan) VanDyke and Robert III (Alicia) Neel, Lauren and Nicholas Neel, Nicole Oaks and Johanna Neel; four great grandchildren, Amelia VanDyke, Aiden and Mason Neel, and Nicholas Oaks; a brother Ralph H. (Jean) Neel, of Berwick; a sister Mary l. Warrick of Cochranville, and cherished nieces and nephews. The comfort and support from family and friends was always at the right time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to, Annie, Becky, Ginger and Lori of Excela Health and Hospice for their care of Bob during his illness. Friends will be received 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Joseph F. Ott Funeral Home Inc 504 Oak Street Irwin. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dave Lacek officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery, Irwin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Westmoreland County Food Bank 100 Devonshire Dr. Delmont, Pa. 15626 in memory of Robert L. Neel.
