Claudia D. (Dunwitty) Zaharia, 74, of Penn Township died Saturday December 30, 2017 at her home in the presence of her loving husband, Jack. She was born May 3, 1943 in Pittsburgh to the late Regina (Wilson) Mueller and Walter Dunwitty, who was killed in WWII and the step daughter of the late Charles Mueller. She taught Spanish for the Hempfield School District and later became one of the principals at the high school. She enjoyed coaching the Hempfield girls softball team; pitching for the woman’s softball team at Liberty Christian Church, riding her horse and bowling. Claudia loved traveling to many European countries. She is survived by her husband Jack, daughter Kristy Murphy and her husband Brian; son Ethan Zaharia; grandchildren Owen, Alana and Eva Murphy. The family would like to thank the nurses and EMTs of Penn Township Ambulance Service and good friend Addie Gebrosky. Friends will be received 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ott Funeral Home Inc. 805 Pennsylvania Avenue. Parting prayers will be held 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hill. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation 2403 Sidney St. Suite 230 Pittsburgh Pa 15203.
