James R. Balfe, 69, of Irwin died Monday, January 1, 2018, in the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born August 28, 1948, in Queens, NY a son of the late Eugene John and Marilyn Therese (O’Neill) Balfe. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a Nuclear Engineer for Westinghouse Bettis, West Mifflin. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin. James was also a member of the National and Local Paralyzed Veterans of America where he participated in wheelchair games, ramp bowling and air guns. Surviving is his beloved wife Nancy (Vogelsperger) Balfe; children Therese Catherine Dyga and her husband, Mark, of Wexford and Nicholas C. Balfe and his wife, Amy, of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren Aidan, Ryan, Evangeline and Ella Dyga; brothers Jack Balfe and his wife, Ellen, of Hyde Park, NY, Stephen G. Balfe, of Palm Coast, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ott Funeral Home Inc. 805 Pennsylvania Avenue, Irwin. Parting prayers will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral Home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
