Thomas A. Whalen
Thomas Whalen, 92, of North Huntingdon died Thursday April 5, 2018 in the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born February 5, 1926 in Irwin a son of the late Eugene F. and Philomena (Koelsch) Whalen. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, in Irwin. Prior to his retirement he was employed as an engineer for Westinghouse. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Slovenian Ballroom, of Herminie. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Tillie (Petterle) Whalen; five brothers Matthew, Paul, Eugene Jr., John and James Whalen; two sisters M. Grace Sherbondy and Joanne Henke. Surviving are a son Thomas M. Whalen and his wife, Mary, of Cranberry Twp., three grandchildren Marissa Dittrich and her husband, Cole, Connor and Evan; a sister-in-law Steffie Whalen, of North Huntingdon and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Ott Funeral Home Inc. 805 Pennsylvania Avenue Irwin. Parting prayers will be held 9:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
